Cennet – The Power of Destiny is Telemundo’s first Turkish novela, based on the South Korean serial Tears of Heaven, and revolves on a nasty, insane mother.
Not Cennet, who is gorgeous, bold, and aching for the maternal affection she was denied.
Her grandma raised her when her mother abandoned her as a baby. That emotional hole was filled by a close childhood friend, but she suffered a double blow when he disappeared from her life following an accident.
In the present tense, Cennet has triumphed over her difficult upbringing. She’s put a lot of effort into being the best architecture student in her class, and when she graduates, the mother of her school colleague Melisa offers her an amazing position at her company.
This is good for Cennet However, this brings her full circle and exposes her to the harsh resentment of the person who turned her down:
At this firm, Cennet first meets Selim, and they learn they had been childhood buddies who lost each other.
They reestablish their bond and get closer, but Arzu gets envious and prickles with spikes since she wants Selim for Melisa.
Then she notices that Cennet has a birthmark on her neck that matches the baby that she left behind more than 20 years ago.
And that’s when she snaps. She gets fixated on the notion that Cennet’s looks is no coincidence and that she has no maternal love at all for her. She loses control and devises a scheme to remove her from her life.
Which raises the question of why a mother would embrace one child yet reject another.
Surely it has to do with the father somehow?
